Event details.
Angels is a promenade theatre experience that invites the audience on a sensory journey with a group of Angels who are new to this world.
Who are they? What can they see, hear, touch, and feel? What does it mean to connect with these creatures? What changes may this connection bring?
The Angel’s journey will begin in the Courtyard of King House and follow a path to the Pleasure Grounds, where the audience will encounter short performances including elements of dance, song, and story.
An outdoor site responsive performance made from joy, child-like curiosity and a re-imagining of the familiar, Fregoli Theatre invites you to experience this performance with them.
Background: Angels is a short outdoor promenade performance approx. 25 mins inspired by the idea of re- imagining and celebrating familiar spaces and places, in this case the ground of the King House and the newly refurbished Pleasure Grounds. It looks and experiences these places with new eyes, and takes wonder in the details, celebrating public space and the sharing of creativity in public space. This performance is devised in response to this site, and thus hopes to bring a deep engagement with audiences particularly local audiences.
There are many ways to engage with this performance, audiences can watch from afar, can approach the angels, and can interact if they wish to do so. The Angels are also happy to learn from the audience! The Angels will move, dance, sing and communicate joy, wonder, and excitement!
Fregoli Theatre Company were Roscommon Arts Centre’s company in residence for 2020 and 2021. As part of this residency Angels was performed with the Boyle Arts Festival in July, 2021 (please see images and YouTube video). This performance further develops the themes of discovery and connection on which the July performance was based, to consider a specific site that of the King House Grounds including the Pleasure Grounds, thus building from storied and historic ground. As this performance is weather dependent, our contingency plan is to perform inside the King House and adapt the performance using the various rooms and levels of this indoor site.
