Event details.
On June 3rd and 4th, Roscommon will be flooded with the glorious sounds of string quartets, piano trios, soaring soprano songs and traditional tunes. Roscommon Chamber Music Festival, the first of its kind for the county, will visit Roscommon Arts Centre and King House, Boyle, presenting the best of international and local talent.
Hot on the heels of piano performances around Italy, Finland, the UK and Ireland, Roscommon native Peter Regan has set up the festival with the generous support of Roscommon County Council and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media through their Local Live Performance Programming Scheme.
Opening night on June 3rd at 8 pm in Roscommon Arts Centre will feature the leading London-based Échea String Quartet and soprano Sarah Shine, one of the stars of the Paris Opera Studio.
Day two of the festival on June 4th will feature the spicy tango music of Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, the lush romantic melodies of Rachmaninoff and the strong spirit of Roscommon traditional group, Gatehouse Trad, with lunchtime and evening concerts taking place in King House, Boyle at 1 pm and 8 pm.
The festival, set to become an annual event in Roscommon’s cultural calendar, is a great opportunity to hear electrifying live music and a chance to open your ears to something new and exciting. Come for the music, and stay for the chat, craic and a glass of wine afterwards!
