THE SIX MARYS tells the story of six girls called Mary, over six decades of their lives. It is very funny and very true to life. The play has been greatly enjoyed by audiences all over Ireland.
THE SIX MARYS is written and narrated by Jean Farrell, with supporting actress/singer Catherine Gallagher.
Excerpts from diaries are interspersed with songs and soundtracks from the different eras. The audience is brought on a journey depicting the social history of the times: the comics, the catechism and the stork; the nuns, the processions and the gym slips; the hops, the hopes and the ‘big day’; the babies, the teenagers and reality. This journey of self-discovery is laced with one-liners guaranteed to make you laugh!
· A truly joyous and wryly subversive show, Jean Farrell has tapped into some universal truths here that resonate far beyond Catholic Ireland. This is Father Ted from a female perspective, and, like that much-loved sitcom, manages to find the warmth in some chilling corners of living under the thumb of the church. Most importantly, The Six Marys is very, very funny which may explain seven full houses in The Whale Theatre.

· I have come to see it five times in The Mill Theatre, in Dublin – and I laughed just as much last night as I did the first time!! Your script really hits the spot- it is the story of all our lives!! Congratulations!!” Bernadette. Dundrum
· It was the best show I ever saw – and I’ve seen plenty. Woman in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.
· Catherine and Jean, I’ve seen your play 4 times already in 3 different venues and I enjoy it so much I’m going with another groups of friends in Navan next weekend. I just want to thank you for the belly wobbling laughs yet poignant themes. I love the fact that the audience can join in the singing with Catherine, who is superb in her energetic and nostalgic acting and singing role. Veronica, Portlaoise
