Boyle to Boulevard

Maureen O’Sullivan was a true starlet of the silver screen and is remembered fondly by the people of Boyle. She starred in 70 films but is perhaps best remembered for her turn as Jane Parker in the Tarzan films of yesteryear alongside Johnny Weismuller. The lovely exhibition on display in King House tells Maureen’s life story

Maureen O'Sullivan & Boyle

Known as ‘Ireland’s first film star’, Maureen O’Sullivan was born only yards from King House, where her father was an adjutant in the Connaught Rangers. When she returned to her hometown in 1988, crowds thronged the street for a glimpse of the Boyle girl turned superstar.
